Village of Nashville

Nashville, the friendly village, is one of Barry County's best kept secrets.  Nashville is located on M-66 and M-79.  Larger communities of Hastings and Charlotte are about 15 miles from Nashville, and a bit further commute are the cities of Battle Creek, Lansing and Grand Rapids.  Nestled along the Thornapple River, this quaint community of approximately 1650 residents offers a variety of outdoor opportunities such as fishing and canoeing along the river, golfing, and enjoying tennis, basketball, horseshoes, softball, and sledding in the winter at our village parks.

As a Class C school, Maple Valley offers students academics as well as athletics, music, arts, vocational education, and co-op opportunities.  Private educational opportunities are also available through Barry County Christian School, and St. Rose Catholic School, located in nearby Hastings.
Local clubs and associations such as Nashville Strings, Nashville Maple Syrup Association, Lions Club, VFW, Masonic lodge, Chamber of Commerce, Scouts and Little League, offer a variety of social opportunities for all ages.  The local churches bring to the community music groups, plays, and social events enjoyed by all.  Located nearby is Historic Charlton Park, a living history exhibit, and Thornapple Lake, which offers camping, boating, fishing, and swimming.

Putnam Library

HISTORIC OVERVIEW OF THE PUTNAM DISTRICT LIBRARY The present structure that houses the Putnam District Library was built in 1884-1885 by Charles Putnam.  Since the Putnam's had no heirs, they deeded the house and property to the Village of Nashville for the purpose of the library.   All 300 of their books were included as well.
In 1923 the Nashville Women's Literary Club petitioned the Village to establish the library and were granted permission.  They set about the task of converting the house into a library.  In 1988 an addition to the library was completed which is now the children's room.
In 1965 the Village of Nashville petitioned the Township of Castleton to form a district library.  Castleton Township agreed and the Putnam District Library was formed.
They shared equally in the funding and appointed two members from each unit to govern the library.  A representative from the Literary Club had a non voting seat on the board as well.
In July of 1990 the Village of Nashville and the Township of Castleton approved the membership of Maple Grove Township as part of the Putnam District Library.
Today the District library is supported by a millage with the Village of Nashville being responsible for the maintenance of the building and grounds.

MAPLE VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT  The Maple Valley School District was formed in 1964 through the consolidation of the Vermontville and Nashville School Districts.  It has survived through growing pains to offer some of the best academic opportunities in the area.
A great deal of pride in the development of the district is taken by the more than 160 employees.  Maple Valley is a fine place to raise and educate your children.  We welcome you to visit the communities, the schools and the people.
With the many lakes and woods in this peaceful rural community, it is a sportsman's paradise.   Hunting, fishing, water sports, and snowmobiling are popular recreational pursuits of the residents.
