| Hastings Charter Township lies near the center of Barry County adjacent to the City of Hastings. Back in 1842 the entire northeast quadrant of the county was designated Hastings Township. It was subsequently divided into the present day townships of Hastings, Carlton, Woodland and Castleton. In 1985 the township became chartered and three years later moved into the present township hall on River Road. |

| The year 2000 population of Hastings Charter is 3,127 and is served mostly by the Hastings Area School system. The Thornapple River runs through the township from the southeast to the northwest. Parts of Leach and Thornapple Lakes and all of Carter Lake lie within the township's borders. These waterways offer fishing, boating and canoeing. Hunting is also permitted by selected landowners in the township. |
| Hastings Charter Township has some light industrial and commercial areas near the city with residential and agricultural land around the edges. Thornapple Manor, Oakview AFC, Hanover House II AFC and several private adult foster care homes are located within the township. Housing in the township is predominately single family residential with a 42 unit mobile home park near the river. |

One of western Michigan's premier museum/vintage parks is located in Hastings Charter Township. Charlton Park, located just of M-79 at the eastern edge of the township features a re-created pioneer park unique to the area. Charlton Park features year around special events that interest all family members. |
| Hastings Charter township has three major state highways (M-79, M-37, M-43) offering excellent transportation capabilities. Five churches are located in the township: Quimby United Methodist, 7th Day Adventist, Grace Brethren Bible, New Life Assembly and Hope United Methodist. |
| Hastings Charter Township is governed by a seven member township board, which meets the second Tuesday of each month. The community is zoned and administered by the Barry County Planning and Zoning Department. |
